The Shape of Dry Country
A note on desert roads, ridgelines, and the geometry of open land.
Dry country draws with fewer lines.
A road cuts around a ridge. The hills hold their shape without much cover. The sky does a great deal of the emotional work. There is a plainness to it that makes every curve matter.
The frame gets stronger when the land is allowed to stay spare.
Sparse land teaches economy, and economy matters in cinematic photography. A frame does not need many elements when the line, light, and subject are placed with care.
