Black Sand in Hawaii

Black sand changes the temperature of a photograph.

The water looks brighter against it, the figures feel smaller, and the edge of the shore carries more weight than it would on pale sand. Hawaii has a way of making colour feel physical, especially where volcanic ground meets clear blue water.
