The Bench Portrait

A note on simple family portraits and why ordinary places often work best.

A bench can be enough.

Family photographs do not always need a dramatic location. Often they need one reliable place for everyone to gather, lean, shift, and settle. The simplicity gives the photograph a little patience.

What matters is not the bench itself. It is the way people arrange themselves when they are allowed to become comfortable.

For family photography, a simple place can be enough if the relationships are clear. Calgary and Alberta sessions do not need spectacle when the people in the frame already carry the story.
