One Tree in Weather

Prairie scale, negative space, and one tree holding the weather near Drumheller, Alberta.

The prairie often looks empty until you stay with it.

Then small things begin to carry more weight: one tree, one fence line, one shift in the sky. The photograph becomes less about finding a subject and more about understanding how little the frame actually needs.

Space is not the absence of content. It is part of the content.

Open space is one of the quiet strengths of Alberta photography. It teaches restraint, which is just as useful when photographing a couple in a field as it is when making personal documentary work.
