On Weather

Wind, cloud cover, imperfect light, and letting a day near Sundre, Alberta be itself.

Storm clouds moving over an open prairie field

Weather has a way of telling the truth about a day.

The cleanest light is not always the most useful light. Cloud cover can make faces feel quiet. Wind can give a frame its pulse. Rain changes the way people stand near one another.

I try not to fight those things too quickly. Sometimes the condition you would have avoided is the thing that gives the photograph its memory.

Weather is part of the story in Alberta photography, not an interruption to it. For couples, families, and wedding days, imperfect conditions can create the kind of atmosphere that makes images feel cinematic and alive.
