Leaving by the Window
A note on departure, car windows, and the photographs that happen between places.
Departures have a different charge than arrivals.
People are less aware of the camera when they are halfway into the next part of the day. A car door closes, a window catches a face, someone turns back for one more look. The frame becomes less formal because the moment is already moving.
I like those photographs because they remember transition. Not only where people were, but the feeling of being carried from one thing into another.
Wedding days are full of these small transitions, and they often become the most documentary images in the final gallery. As an Alberta wedding photographer, I try to notice the in-between movement as carefully as the ceremony itself.
